Model Jet

28/7/2022

Our Dezzi Track Days are intended to be for the whole family, so we try to put on a show for everyone whenever possible. This time we invited Eric Bell to demonstrate his model jet aircraft. An incredible piece of kit to say the least. Cost of this toy is north of R100k, it has a real miniature turbine jet engine that runs on paraffin.

There is obviously a certain degree of skill required to pilot this thing, as you will see from the videos below. Aerobatics are phenomenal with speeds in excess of 300km/h. It's easy to lose perspective of size once this thing is up in the air. It really looks and sounds like the real thing!

In the dead of winter, June 2015, a small group of us booked Phakisa Raceway for a private track weekend.

It was bitter cold, but we had the track all to ourselves and motoring memories were made...

Life keeps us so busy.

So you often need to pick your car up from an establishment that worked on it, which is an inconvenient errant at the best of times,

So you get the paperwork done, get in the car, readjust your seat, tune your phone into the car, readjust the rear view mirror and the door mirrors. Nothing is like it was when you dropped the car off. Even the radio is on another station with the volume turned way up. Everything is wrong. It feels like some stranger violated the inner sanctity of the private space that your car provides. Now that kinda riles you up into a mildly irritated state of mind, but you are running late for your next engagement elsewhere, so let's get moving!

Point the car into traffic and the first thing you notice is the dirty and smudged windscreen you are now obliged to look through. Of course that cheeses you off even more and you start looking through the side windows only to discover that they too, look like they've been wiped clean with an oily rag, leaving behind some nice fatty holographic designs reflecting in the sun...

Now that's just not right. Regardless of whatever work carried out on your car by the above establishment is satisfactory, or not, you just got a dirty windscreen as a parting note. And that's downright disgusting and disrespectful, right?

It's a widespread problem and we need your help to eradicate it, please. Here's what you can do to help stamp it out;

  • Always keep our window cleaner in your private stash of Amazing Glaze goodies and use as and when required.

  • The next time you visit that place that gave you your car back with dirty windows, please tell them about Amazing Glaze Window Cleaner.
Cheesy pitch, eh?

Katse Dam circa 2011-ish...

With this post we take you back to a time when rural Southern Africa had good enough roads that you could make road trips in 911s to just about anywhere.

We were fortunate and actually managed two Porsche 911 trips to Katse Dam in Lesotho during the early 2010s. The roads were good, the driving was fantastic, the views were spectacular and the memories will always be priceless, of course...

Considering the state of our roads now, it's almost unbelievable that just a few years ago you could take a 911 of any era and send it through a mountain pass on a spirited drive without having to worry about road hazards like potholes or funny enough, the fact that the road would actually still be there underneath you when you come around the next corner...

Times have changed.

Over the years we've had something to do with more Porsche GT3's than we can remember.

Here are some of them. Hopefully we'll get to tell you more about some or them...

Bertha's Road Trip

The world is not in good shape, but there are still many things in life that bring like-minded people together and we have to come up with an appropriate idea for our first blog post on our new site, so here we go… Let’s get together. Friends, Family, Sport, Food…, cars…. Yes CARS! That’s why you’re here reading this, isn’t it?

Well, It all started in the late 1800s with a lady by the name of Bertha Ringer. She was just 23 when she married Karl Benz, the inventor of the automobile. Bertha funded Karl’s business with a wealthy dowry even before an automobile was called an automobile.

She then urged him on to demonstrate his new invention to the world, but Karl was kinda hesitant, so Bertha did what any gutsy petrolhead wife should. She took Karl’s automobile, which was basically a wonky tricycle looking thing with a crude engine strapped to the rear axle, loaded up their two sons Eugen & Richard, and embarked on the first road trip ever in, (or “on?”) an automobile, covering 106km in 15 hours and reaching speeds up to 30km/h going downhill on that rickety thing!

What an adventure that trip must have been! There were no proper roads, filling stations or garages. Bertha did various running repairs along the way and documented them so Karl could make improvements to his automobile, but most importantly, Bertha showed the world what a car could do. It brought people together.

And here we are today, doing track days, breakfast runs and road trips, mixing with friends, discussing our rides and having fun along the way.

Thank you Lady Benz, for bringing us together.
